What is Long Code and why do you call it that ?
A Long Code is also called a Long Code or a Virtual Mobile Number. In the U.S.,
a Long Code is simply a 10 digit phone number to which you can text or call.
Why are Long Codes so long ?
Long Codes are just like your mobile phone number. Your own number is 10 digits
(xxx-xxx-xxxx) and so are ours. We just call them long because 10 digits is longer
than Short Codes that are five or six digits.
How do Long Codes work ?
A wireless subscriber is made aware of a Long Code, whether through TV, radio, online
or through an advertisement, and asked to send a text message or call the 10 digit
number. The wireless subscriber then addresses a text message to the Long Code number
(e.g. 212-555-1212) and enters text into the message. Once the wireless subscriber
sends the message, it is routed through the wireless service providers' network
to the Long Code messaging or voice server. The wireless service provider’s messaging
or voice server then determines where to route the message based on the Long Code
and which application provider or brand supports/ corresponds to the Long Code.
The application receives the message and routes it through the software application,
which could include sending a confirmation or follow-up message back to the wireless
subscriber who originated the message.
Short Code :
What is shortcode ?
A shortcode is a virtual number minimum length is 5 digits and maximum is 9 digits.
The idea behind short codes is to make them easy to remember .It is a pull sms service
and able to receive high traffic of incoming sms. These shortcode numbers can be
used on shared and dedicated basis.
What is keyword and sub keyword ?
Keyword : Each incoming sms at shortcode is routed on basis of first word of sms.
This word is called Keyword. Which identify that who should read this sms. The concept
of keyword is mainly useful for shared shortcode. For example your company name
is ABC pvt. Ltd. So you can buy ABC keyword on any shared shortcode supposes on
56677. Your user needs to type "ABC message" and send it to 56677. In this way that
message will be redirected to your inbox because the first word of the sms (ABC)
is owned by you. Sender will immediately receive the auto reply.
Subkeyword: A subkeyword is the word which is immediately followed by the main keyword.A subkeyword can be used as a main keyword.Suppose you own a college named ABC institute now there are 3 different courses available in collage say MBA, MCA BBA. In that case in order to generate inquiries for these 3 courses you don’t need to buy 3 different keywords you can buy a single keyword ABC and create 3 subkeywords i.e. ABC MBA, ABC MCA, ABC BBA, in order to receive inquiries for 3 different courses and you can even set 3 different auto replies for all 3 subkeywords.
Is there any incoming sms charges ?
There is no cost to receive SMS on a shortcode. One can receive lacs of sms without
bearing a single penny.
